Several people attended the talk by Richard Higson. This suddenly lead into a notice of intention by some developers, some people working for IBM and the Stuttgart based company trustsec IT solutions GmbH who now plan to work on getting Debian GNU/Linux officially supported by IBM on the S/390 architecture, alongside with other distributions.
Richard Higson gave a talk about Debian on S/390 and a demonstration of the current status of this port at the Debian Day during LinuxTag 2001. (Motto: "Where .com meets .org").
Gerhard Tonn announced the beginnings of an S/390 autobuilder, hosted and sponsored by Millenux, (the makers of Think Blue Linux for IBM's S/390 series and Think Blue 64 Linux for IBM's z/Series). We owe special thanks to Fritz Elfert for taking the time and trouble to support "a competing distribution".
The base-s390.tar.gz can be used as a chroot environment on a standard S/390 linux-2.2.19 or later kernel. This one is generated with builtin CTC support, and IPL's from RDR (after unzipping ;-).
